After spending 79 weeks at number 1 multiple Grammy award winner singer & songwriter Ed Sheeran has been named artist of the decade spending highest number of weeks on top of the singles and albums charts combined.
The Official Charts Company (OCC), which aggregates the UK pop outlines, has named Ed Sheeran as its artist of the decade.
The Halifax artist lyricist had the most No 1s over the collections and singles outline during the 2010s, with 12. His collections went through 41 weeks at the top altogether, his singles 38, making an aggregate of 79 weeks – more than some other artists. No other artist in the interim has invested more energy in the Top 40 singles outline than Sheeran’s consolidated 572 weeks.
Ed Sheeran respond to this news was: “This is nuts – I didn’t really expect to have a career past five years, so to be able to have done it for a decade, Thank you for your support.” OCC chief executive Martin Talbot said Sheeran’s achievement was “truly remarkable”.
Martin Talbot, CEO of the Official Charts Company, remarked: “Ed genuinely has commanded this decade and is a commendable beneficiary of this astonishing new grant.
“Toward the beginning of the decade, he was somewhat known (but exceptionally evaluated) youthful 18-year-old chap from Halifax – yet his index of accomplishments from that point forward are truly amazing.
“Today, he is immovably settled among the most elevated level of worldwide music geniuses.”
His single “Shape of You” is the most hit song of the decade having spent 14 weeks in number 1 position.
Entry To Success
Sheeran, now 28, first entered the UK charts in 2011 with debut single ‘The A Team’. He has since had eight UK no. 1 singles. His four studio albums each topped the British charts.
HighT Lands Today Ed Sheeran’s three songs, ‘Shape Of You’, ‘Thinking Out Loud’ and ‘Perfect’, had made the top 10 of the End-of-The-Decade list.
‘Shape Of You’ is one of three Sheeran singles in the top five while ‘Thinking Out Loud’ is at number three and ‘Perfect’ is at number five.
